Brash Higgins Merlot 2022

An expressive and textural take on Merlot from Brash Higgins, MRLO is sourced from Lennon Vineyard, planted in 1994 on clay-rich soils in McLaren Vale. The 2022 vintage offered a long, balanced growing season, allowing for even ripening and excellent fruit definition. Fermented in a combination of amphora and small open fermenters, the wine is then returned to clay vessels for a further seven months, enhancing both texture and aromatic complexity before final ageing. A 15% addition of Nero d’Avola brings lift, structure and a subtle exotic edge. Production is limited to just 200 cases. The result is a deep, supple and characterful red, showing dark cherry, spiced plum, black tea and earthy notes, with a glossy acidity and gentle grip that carries through to a long, perfumed finish. “Deep purple… aromas of grapes, oyster shell, earthy clay, black jelly bean, black tea… smooth and seductive… glossy acidity… finishes with an after breath of dried violets.” – Brad Hickey, Winemaker
